Sang Chun

Sang Chun is a seasoned data scientist currently serving as a Senior Data Scientist at Coupang since February 2023. Previously, Sang held the position of Data Scientist at Wider Planet, Inc., where significant achievements included the design of customer segmentation and product recommendation models, as well as improving conversion prediction accuracy by over 5% while drastically reducing feature space. Earlier experience includes leading the Data Infrastructure, Machine Learning, and IT Team at CJ CheilJedang BIO, where Sang developed a successful classification solution for intellectual property text and a Random Forest classifier for pathogen detection. Sang's academic background comprises a PhD and MSc in Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics from the University of Michigan, complemented by a BA in Biology from Kalamazoo College. This extensive experience is underpinned by a research-focused history at the University of Michigan, encompassing multiple roles culminating in a postdoctoral fellowship, with contributions to protein synthesis efficiency and cancer research, reflected in numerous publications and high student evaluations as an instructor.
