Phil Bronsdon

Phil Bronsdon is the current VP, Chief Technology Officer at Covail. Prior to this, they were the Senior Vice President Product Development at CenturyLink from December 2015 to March 2018. In this role, they oversaw 286 employees and 39 contractors as 1 of 6 direct reports to the CTO. Their responsibilities included providing infrastructure upgrades for all the network systems through feature evolution, software updates, and obsolete system replacement and deliver new products in the core network capabilities of the business in partnership with Product Management, influencing a revenue of $1B.

Phil also executed cost avoidance initiatives across the project portfolio by eliminating maintenance on obsolete systems, reducing expensive maintenance programs, and replacing antiquated systems with new systems, resulting in saving $300M in maintenance costs. In addition, they piloted unlicensed spectrum trials to test the rate, reach, and cost per household connected targets for early 5G wireless access network systems within a 3.5G wireless spectrum, providing an alternative to fiber-based access for a rural community. Phil also validated the reach of 10G systems within the network to expedite connection rates, deploying the world’s 1st 10G PON virtualized system production trial in 2017.

Most recently, they developed capability updates for the SD LAN product to replace MPLS and compete against SlingTV, SonyVue, and Directv Now, enabling live TV, video-on-demand, and cloud DVR, launching an over-the-top video service to 4 US markets in July 2017 with a forecasted national delivery by December 2017.

Phil Bronsdon received a BS in CIS from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Ohio University. Phil also completed an executive program in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
