Frances P. Rodriguez-Rivera

Director of Biology at Covant Therapeutics

Frances P. Rodriguez-Rivera has a diverse work experience in the field of biology and research. They started their career as an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Puerto Rico, Cayey, where they worked from January 2010 to May 2011.

After that, Frances joined Caltech as a MURF Fellow, where they synthesized multi-ligand peptide binders for phosphorylated epitopes of the Akt2 protein. This research was important for understanding mammalian cellular signaling. The fellowship lasted from May 2010 to July 2010.

Frances then became a CURE Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In this role, they worked on the development of potential photocromic proton exchange membranes for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. They synthesized azobenzene sulfonic acid moieties for functionalizing polymeric supports that were evaluated for proton transport properties. This fellowship was carried out from May 2009 to July 2009.

Next, Frances joined the University of Pennsylvania as an REU Fellow. Under the guidance of Ivan J. Dmochowski, they applied a seeded growth mechanism to template gold nanoparticles within the cavity of ferritin from the hyperthermophile Archaeoglobus fulgidus. This work involved synthesizing gold nanoparticles enclosed by the cavity of ferritin. The fellowship took place from May 2008 to July 2008.

Frances then pursued their education at UC Berkeley, where they first worked as a Graduate Student Instructor from August 2011 to May 2013. Later, they became a Graduate Student Researcher from May 2012 to December 2016.

After completing their education, Frances joined Merck as a Senior Scientist, contributing from February 2017 to May 2020. Subsequently, they advanced to become an Associate Principal Scientist, with their tenure lasting from May 2020 to November 2021.

Following their time at Merck, Frances was hired by Roivant Sciences as a Director of Biology. They worked in this position from November 2021 to September 2022.

Currently, Frances is the Director of Biology at Covant Therapeutics, a position they have held since September 2022.

Frances P. Rodriguez-Rivera's education history includes a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey, which was obtained between 2007 and 2011. Following this, Frances pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of California, Berkeley from 2011 to 2016. During the same period, Frances also studied Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Stanford University in 2015 and 2016. Additional information about Frances' education after 2016 is not provided.
