Research Scientist at Covariant

Carlos Florensa has a diverse work experience in research and intern roles. Carlos started their career as a Summer Fellow and Intern at ICFO, where they gained exposure to high-tech projects and developed skills in communication. Carlos then worked as a Summer Visitor at Argonne National Laboratory, applying Stochastic Programming methods to the Electrical Transmission Network. Carlos also worked as a Visiting Research Scholar at Carnegie Mellon University, focusing on solving Mixed Integer Bilevel Non-Linear Programs. Carlos further expanded their research experience as a Research Intern at DeepMind, where they contributed to self-supervised learning of image embedding for continuous control. Carlos then joined NVIDIA as a Research Intern, where they developed an algorithm called Guided Uncertainty-Aware Policy Optimization (GUAPO) for robotics applications. Currently, they are working at Covariant as a Research Scientist, utilizing their expertise in robotics and machine learning. Carlos completed their PhD at UC Berkeley, where they conducted research in a wide range of topics.

- From 2015 to 2019, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining their degree in May 2020.
