Susan I. Belanger

Senior Vice President of Mission Integration and Ethics at Covenant Health

Susan I. Belanger, PhD, MA, RN, NEA-BC serves as the Senior Vice President of Mission Integration and Ethics for Covenant Health. In this position, she provides strategic leadership to ensure the mission, values and heritage of Covenant Health are integrated into all aspects of the organization. She also serves as the system ethicist. In this role, she promotes ethical practice at all levels of the organization with the goal of enhancing of ethical awareness in the delivery of high-quality healthcare.

Sue has experience in both nursing leadership and education, as well as ethics. She has held positions as nurse manager, nursing director and chief nursing officer. Currently, she is an adjunct professor of nursing at St. Joseph’s College in Maine, where she teaches in the education and leadership tracks. She also teaches ethics in the graduate nursing program at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. While in the Washington DC area, Sue worked as a Senior Research Scholar at the Pellegrino Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown where she participated in ethics consultations and medical student education.

Sue earned a diploma in nursing from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Lewiston, Maine, a BSN from the University of Maine, and an MSN and PhD from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. She also completed a post-doctoral master’s degree in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola University in Chicago. Sue is a board-certified Nurse Administrator – Advanced (NEA-BC) and is certified in the Fundamentals of Magnet. She serves on two national boards for Osteopathic Physicians – the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) and the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).
