David Junius

David Junius is the Chief Financial Officer at Cowbell Cyber. David was previously the Chief Financial Officer at SiriusPoint from February 2021 to October 2022. At SiriusPoint, David was responsible for financial reporting, business support, capital planning, and regulatory reporting for the transformation and turnaround of two Bermuda reinsurers. David managed a quarter of the total workforce of 1000+ employees across North America, Bermuda, Europe, and Asia. David was also the primary contact for investors and rating agencies.

During their time at SiriusPoint, David revamped the strategy into three parts: 1) re-underwriting/reducing property catastrophe reinsurance, 2) shifting investments away from high capital charge alternatives to fixed income, and 3) growing alternative primary insurance and MGA-partnership distribution. David also re-segmented financial reporting into Reinsurance and Insurance & Services, while splitting underwriting and fee-based businesses. In addition, they established a process for monthly and quarterly business and operating reviews to track business performance against established profitability and risk reduction goals.

In order to reduce costs and operational complexity, David simplified the legal structure to merge three Class IV Bermuda insurers into one and halve the number of service companies. David also launched a general ledger simplification process to reduce the number of general ledgers from six to one. Finally, David executed a loss portfolio transfer to runoff specialist to resolve the back book of long-tail casualty liabilities.

David Junius received their MBA from the University of Chicago in Analytical Finance / Accounting. David also holds a MAIA from The George Washington University in International Affairs, Russian Studies, and a BA from Boston University in International Relations, Soviet Studies.
