Kurt Ziegler

Senior Firmware Development Engineer at CradlePoint

Kurt Ziegler has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over three decades. Kurt began their career at Honeywell, where they worked as a Principal Engineer responsible for collision avoidance systems and prototype transponders. During this time, they gained expertise in hardware and software debugging.

After their time at Honeywell, Ziegler worked at Advanced Navigation and Positioning Corporation as a Software Engineer. Here, they developed product software for embedded systems using QNX and C, specializing in real-time techniques and architectures.

Ziegler then joined The Insitu Group as a Senior Software Engineer, leading the development of system software for unmanned autonomous aircraft. Kurt designed and implemented a wireless TDMA communication link for multiple aircraft control and monitoring.

Next, Ziegler joined Micron Communications as a Senior Software Engineer. In this role, they served as a technical lead and principal software/firmware developer for a major RFID project. Kurt managed the project from conception through successful beta installations at customer sites, developing embedded firmware using C and C++.

Ziegler then transitioned to ProClarity Corporation as an Engineering Manager. Here, they revamped the R&D organization's compensation system and led the transition from large technology-focused groups to small cross-functional teams. Kurt also managed the major roll-out of the entire ProClarity enterprise product line.

Following this, Ziegler joined Microsoft as a Senior Development Lead. Kurt managed two to three cross-functional development teams and was responsible for the long-term development of teams, including team makeup, technical capabilities, and development processes.

Ziegler then worked at Inovus Solar as a software guy, focusing on embedded, mobile, and cloud development for intelligent solar lighting systems. Kurt developed business logic for intelligent light poles using Python running on a Synapse 2.4GHz wireless mesh engine.

Before their current role, Ziegler worked at FlyWare as the Owner/Engineer. Here, they developed a cross-platform cycling app called CycleTrip using Visual Studio 2017, .NET Core, C#, and Xamarin.

Currently, Ziegler is employed at CradlePoint, Inc. as a Senior Firmware Development Engineer.

Kurt Ziegler's education history includes several academic experiences. In 1980, they enrolled at Kansas State University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a focus on Computer Engineering. Kurt completed their undergraduate degree in 1984. Afterward, from 1984 to 1985, Kurt undertook Graduate level courses at the same university, continuing to specialize in Computer Engineering. In 1991, they attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where they took Graduate level courses in Human Factors and Research Methods and Statistics. This educational endeavor lasted until 1992.
