Bethany Ellis is the Chief People Officer at CreatorIQ. Bethany was previously the SVP of Human Resources at Boingo Wireless from November 2013 to December 2020. Bethany was a key member of the executive team responsible for evolving Boingo’s culture into a six-time “Best Place to Work” designee. As a trusted advisor, Bethany transitioned the long-time CEO into retirement and integrated the new CEO with the senior leadership team.

During their time at Boingo, Bethany led the implementation of Boingo’s business continuity plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bethany seamlessly transitioned 400+ employees in 33 states to shelter-in-place while maintaining business continuity of the “essential” business. In addition, Bethany launched an Employee Resource Group to focus on racial equality and social justice.

Bethany designed programs and practices that ensure everyone feels welcome and valued at Boingo - including self-guided curriculum, training, guest speakers, and cultivating a diverse recruiting pipeline. Bethany executed branding initiatives that positioned Boingo Wireless as a world-class employer, driving the positive corporate visibility needed to draw top talent. Under Bethany’s leadership, the company grew from 200 to 500 employees and reduced turnover from 32% to 9%.

Bethany also oversaw the acquisition of Elauwit Networks and successfully integrated the 80 employees based in South Carolina. Prior to the acquisition, turnover was 47%; a year later it was just 12%. Bethany managed an HR team of 15 and provided strategic and operational direction for an employee base distributed across the U.S., Brazil, UK, and Dubai. Bethany worked with the compensation committee on strategies to retain top talent through compensation design and succession planning and helped them meet governance requirements.

Bethany developed the Boingo Science of hiring, raised the bar on talent, and brought candidate satisfaction to 91% positive. Bethany also designed and implemented a health and wellness strategy to keep insurance premiums down for Boingo and employees. The average premium increase over 6 years was just 5.63%.
