Charlie Depietro

Principal, Mildred Osborne Charter School at Crescent City Schools

Charlie DePietro is the School Leader Fellow at Crescent City Schools. Charlie attended Duke University in Durham, NC where he received a bachelor’s degree in French and History. After graduation, Charlie joined Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta as a sixth grade math teacher. He taught for two years at George Middle School in Carrollton, MS, where he received the Outstanding Teacher Award by the principal and county Superintendent for the growth his students made on MCT2 tests. Charlie joined the Harriet Tubman team in 2012 as a 5th and 6th grade math teacher. Over the course of his seven years in the classroom, Charlie was able to raise the achievement level for students in his middle school math classes. The scholars he taught consistently outperformed the RSD and state performance averages. During the 2013-2014 school year, 70% of Charlie’s 6th graders, and 73% of his 7th graders, passed the iLEAP at Basic or Above. During the 2014 – 2015 school year, 86% of his 6th graders passed the PARCC at Basic or Above. And during the 2015 – 2016 school year, 84% of the 7th graders he taught passed the LEAP at Basic or above.

In 2016, Charlie transitioned into the role of Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Harriet Tubman. In this role, he coaches teachers on a variety of instructional and behavior management strategies. He has participated in network-wide curriculum walk-throughs. He has also implemented the use of Math Instructional Practice Guides at Harriet Tubman to improve teacher math content knowledge and implementation of lessons.
