Janika Fazande

Janika Fazande is the Assistant Principal for grades PK-2 at Paul Habans Charter School. In this role, Janika provides leadership, coaching, and development to teachers in the areas of curriculum implementation and classroom culture. Janika is a founding staff member at Habans and previously served as a kindergarten teacher, PK-2 Team Leader, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI). As a kindergarten teacher, her scholars consistently achieved end-of-year reading benchmark goals, with 65% or more going to 1st grade on or above grade level or making 1.5 years of reading growth. Prior to becoming DCI, Janika participated in a year long leadership training program with Building Excellent Schools/LENS where she received extensive school leadership training, as well as the opportunity to coach teachers. Janika began her teaching career in 2011, where she taught at a public school in the 9th Ward of New Orleans. Janika believes strongly in the values and mission of Habans and its belief that with a good foundation in education, all students can have a life of opportunity and choice. Janika is a native of New Orleans and received her Bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Development from the University of New Orleans.
