Beta Engineering is currently looking for a Substation Engineer to join their team. Substation Engineers (SE) are responsible for the design, interpretation, application and documentation of drawings and calculations pertaining to the physical design of a substation. Substation Engineers are tasked with ensuring that designs, and their applications, are completed to code and standards set forth by the appropriate authoritative bodies. In addition, SE’s are required to work with customer representatives, Project Management Teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure designs meet appropriate specifications and requirements.   BETA CORE COMPETENCIES: Understanding the value of the customer, Contributes to overall team success, Continuous and applied learning, Strategic development, and Pride CORE COMPETENCIES Customer Focus, Decision Quality, Business Insight, Drives Results, Collaborates, Communicates Effectively, Courage, Instills Trust, Manages Ambiguity   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Checks conduit, grounding, control shelter, electrical arrangements, outdoor lighting and equipment vendor design packages. Performs and checks grounding calculations. Performs and checks conduit fill calculations. Performs and checks pulling tension calculations. Performs and checks vehicle tracking calculations. Performs and checks outdoor lighting calculations. Performs and checks lightning protection designs calculations. Performs and checks substation Sag-10 calculations. Performs and checks flexible jumper calculations. Performs and checks bus design calculations. Performs and checks arc-flash calculations. Performs and checks insulation coordination calculations. Performs and checks underground ampacity calculations. Creates and checks material list descriptions for all major equipment. Creates and checks material list descriptions for all minor substation material. Demonstrates integrity and ethics in all client relationships and communications. Answers technical questions posed by construction managers, field staff, project managers, customers and their representatives. Recognize and recommend methods to improve customer’s experience. Perform other studies as able and required. Travels periodically to both customer offices for project meetings and to job sites for construction visits and testing Manages day-to-day activities of schedule and design of projects assigned to them Coordinates and problem solves between design teams and departments   EXPECTATIONS: Performs quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision. Interacts professionally with other employees and customers. Works effectively as a team contributor on all assigned projects. Communicates regularly with supervisor regarding designs, concerns, studies or tests Desire to participate in continued education and training Occasional overnight travel to active job sites Must have clean driving record as use of company vehicles is a requirement of position Adhere to and practice the Beta core competencies and Beta principle Maintains check print set of all work they perform Utilizes the department resources in an effective manner to get all work accomplished on time and correctly   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering. 5 plus years of experience in the physical design of high voltage substations is required PE license is required Strong background in Microsoft Word, Mathcad, Excel, and PowerPoint required; strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Knowledge of all or some of the following applications are preferred: AutoCAD, CDEGS grounding software, CYMCAP, LitePro, FEAP, Southwire SAG/Ten, Alcoa, Vehicle Tracking, SAP-2000.   WORKING CONDITIONS: Will work in an office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, and other environmental hazards. Overnight travel is required to an active construction site for a period of one or two weeks at a time. Ability to perform duties safely and to adhere to each job site’s safety requirements; while working on an active job site, outdoors, is a requirement.

COMPENSATION: $68,649 - $130,614 per year (potential for beyond scale)

Salary range is estimated. Actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications and application of any geographic salary differential.
