Job Summary:

Crooked is hiring for a Video Producer in the Production department reporting to VP of Production. This role will focus on creating a video version of Crooked’s popular daily news podcast, What a Day, for YouTube. This person will lead a small team and work collaboratively with the podcast team and show hosts to create a visually appealing version of the show that can find a new audience on video platforms. This role will require a shifted work schedule from Sunday through Thursday with 1:30pm - 10:00pm being the primary shift of work.

Crooked has adopted a hybrid work model for our entire staff. We believe that the best work is done in a hybrid capacity as it combines the flexibility of working from home with in person collaboration. We are looking for LA based candidates, or candidates willing to relocate within the first 3 months of accepting an offer. 

How You’ll Spend Your Time:

Converting the What a Day podcast into a Daily Video Series

  • Supervising the video component of podcast recordings from our LA-based studio
  • Working with a video editor to cut the episode in a timely manner for release the next morning 
  • Working with a video optimization specialist to hone publishing aspects of each video including titling, thumbnail, and promotional clips
  • Supervising the optimization of clips from the show for different social platforms

Ideating Other Video Opportunities for the Hosts or Team Behind What a Day

  • Driving creative on other opportunities or spin-off original video content we could create around What a Day to help the show reach new audiences

Advising on Other Crooked News/Politics Video Content

  • Providing a quality control viewing of the video version of Crooked’s Strict Scrutiny podcast that will be released every Monday morning
  • Considering how What a Day can be incorporated into other Crooked properties or channels as a regular news source
  • Coordinating the sharing of key new assets like broll or clips that could be utilized across multiple shows

What You’ll Bring To The Table:

  • 3-5 years as an online video content creator
  • Creativity with a flair for strong visual elements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to deliver quality work on a tight schedule
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Experience in a studio setting and/or on set 
  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere 
  • Familiarity with digital cameras and production equipment
  • Understanding of digital media files, organization and formatting 
  • Familiarity with Photoshop, After Effects, and other parts of the Adobe Suite
  • A passion and deep knowledge for current events and key figures in national politics

When we open up a position, we conduct a market analysis to ensure we have the most up-to-date data. Once we’re ready to extend an offer, we look at the individual’s years of relevant experience and other compensable factors to determine a competitive offer. And for this role, the starting salary range is $75,000 - $85,000.
