Paul Ramsey has over 20 years of work experience in the geospatial industry. Paul began their career in 1996 as President of Refractions Research, where they grew a one-man firm into a 25-employee consultancy specializing in open source geospatial software development. In 2007, they became a Director at the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, providing financial, organizational and legal support to the broader open source geospatial community. From 2008 to 2015, they worked at Clever Elephant Solutions as a Clever Elephant, focusing on geospatial web software design, training, implementation, and development, with a focus on open source solutions. Paul then moved to Carto as a Solutions Architect in 2015. In 2009, they joined Boundless, formerly OpenGeo, as VP of Product Management, providing marketing direction, coordinating the development team, and setting technology priorities for new releases. Paul also served as Geospatial Architect, managing and staffing the Victoria, Canada office and providing strategic advice to the executive on market opportunities and technology directions. In 2018, they joined Crunchy Data as an Executive Geospatial Engineer and in 2020, they became a Member of the Board of Governors at the University of Victoria.

Paul Ramsey completed their BSc in Mathematics at The University of British Columbia between 1989 and 1993. Paul then went on to obtain their MSc in Statistics from the University of Victoria between 1993 and 1996.
