Matthew Burns has a diverse work experience in the legal field. Matthew has served as a Member on the Panel of Construction Arbitrators at the American Arbitration Association since 2023. Prior to that, from 2020 to 2022, they were the Vice President and General Counsel at Crystal Steel Fabricators, Inc and later became the VP-Risk and Projects. From 2015 to 2020, they worked as an Associate General Counsel at Lehigh Hanson, actively participating in key executive-level business decisions and providing proactive counsel on various legal and business matters. Previously, from 2011 to 2015, Matthew was a Senior Corporate Counsel at Amec Foster Wheeler, specializing in commercial construction law. Matthew started their career as an Attorney at Flaster/Greenberg P.C. in 2005, managing litigation and reviewing contracts for construction projects. Matthew also gained experience as an Attorney at Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC and as a Law Clerk at the Superior Court of New Jersey.
Matthew Burns graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland in 1999. Matthew went on to attend Rutgers Law School from 2000 to 2003, earning a Juris Doctor (JD) degree. In 2009, Matthew pursued further education at Baruch College, where they obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialization in Finance in 2012.
In addition to their formal education, Matthew Burns has also obtained several certifications. In December 2021, they completed the Mergers and Acquisitions certification program at Columbia Business School Executive Education. Earlier in April 2021, Matthew obtained the Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) Certification from the International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI).
