Martin Coughlan has extensive work experience in the software engineering field. Martin started their career at HMV as a sales assistant in 1995. Martin then joined Symantec in 1996 and held various roles such as Localization Engineer, Software Engineer in the Tools Group, Senior Software Engineer in the Tools Group, and Senior Software Engineer in the International Product Engineering Group. During this time, they focused on developing and maintaining localization tools for Symantec software. Martin also worked on identifying internationalization issues and developing automation tools to address them. In 2005, Martin became a Principal Software Engineer in the Shared Engineering Services group at Symantec, where they worked on an automated enterprise-class localization system called DENT.

Martin's last position before joining Cubic Telecom in 2020 was as a Senior Engineering Manager in the Rulespace team at Symantec, where they oversaw the web content categorization service and managed a team of software engineers, operations engineers, and technical support engineers. In Cubic Telecom, Martin currently holds the position of Director of Software Engineering and is responsible for managing engineers and their professional growth.
Martin Coughlan's education history includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Software Engineering from the Institute of Technology, Carlow, which they obtained between 1991 and 1995.
