Ernesto Herrero-Flores's work experience includes a variety of roles in the fields of baseball analytics, data science, and product management. Ernesto began their career as a Staff member at Dunkin' Brands, where they worked as a cashier and barista. Ernesto then explored their passion for baseball by founding the blog "Balk The Talk" and writing for SB Nation as a Baseball Analytics Writer.
Ernesto continued to pursue their interest in baseball analytics by becoming a Researcher for the Michigan Society for American Baseball Research. Ernesto also served as the Director of Analytics for Aguilas Metropolitanas, where they led the recruitment process and expanded the analytics department by hiring interns.
To further develop their skills, Ernesto worked as a Data Analyst for the Michigan Club Baseball Team, analyzing player data and creating visualizations to identify areas for improvement. Ernesto also held the role of Baseball Analytics and Player Development Student Manager at the University of Michigan Athletics, where they managed the collection of data-based player development material and produced reports using various tools.
Ernesto gained valuable experience in the field of baseball operations as a Baseball Operations Apprentice for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. In this role, they worked as a Product Strategist - Data Analyst and utilized R and SQL to perform analysis and modeling on topics such as pitch arsenals, pitch design, and waiver research.
Most recently, Ernesto worked as a Data Scientist for Z-Axis Sports Management, where they utilized decision tree algorithms and clustering methods to build a contract salary projection model. Ernesto also participated in clientele meetings to market the company's sports agency and identified target lists of potential clients based on sabermetrics and game stats.
Ernesto's upcoming position is as a Product Management Analyst at Curinos, beginning in 2023.
Ernesto Herrero-Flores attended Cypress Bay High School from 2014 to 2018. During this time, they did not obtain a specific degree or field of study. After completing high school, they enrolled in the University of Michigan in 2018 and is expected to graduate in 2022 with a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Data Science Engineering. In addition to their formal education, Ernesto obtained two certifications related to baseball pitching and hitting from Rapsodo, Inc., in September 2021 and April 2021, respectively.
