Montanna Riggs

Head of Diversity & Social Outreach at Curious Cardinals

Montanna is a freshman at Stanford studying material science and engineering with a focus on chemistry and a minor in music. In 2019, she graduated summa cum laude from the Groton School where she was a dual varsity captain in volleyball and track and field and an avid cello player, earning her the Harvard Book Prize for academic excellence and high character in 2018. After finding a love for chemistry, especially organic, in high school, she has balanced her academics between molecular interactions (the technical stuff) and the fun stuff like the chemistry of cooking and of skin, a passion which she’ll continue in her summer lab internship studying the response of skin to ballistics.

Outside of the classroom, Montanna loves playing for the women’s rugby team as well as serving as a Stanford tour guide, which perhaps provides a forum for her greatest talents: talking too much and walking backwards. When she’s feeling really feisty you can find her taking crazy self timer photos, hosting midday dance parties, or leading her dorm team to victory in 4 different intramural sports.
