Matthew Tonts

Matthew Tonts currently serves as Provost at Curtin University and as Commissioner of the Conservation and Parks Commission for the Government of Western Australia. Previously, Matthew held the position of Chair at the Environmental Protection Authority from January 2021 to May 2024 and served as a Non Executive Director at Auspire - Australia Day Council WA and Men's Health & Wellbeing Western Australia. A seasoned academic, Matthew has extensive experience at The University of Western Australia, where roles included Pro Vice Chancellor, Executive Dean, and Professor of Geography, along with leadership positions within the School of Earth and Environment. Matthew's international experience includes a Visiting Professorship at the University of California, Davis and a Senior Visiting Research Fellowship at the University of Plymouth. Matthew's education encompasses a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography from Curtin University and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Geography and Environmental Management from Edith Cowan University, alongside further qualifications from the Melbourne Business School and the University of Plymouth.
