G-J van Rooyen

G-J van Rooyen has extensive work experience in the field of information and communications technology. G-J is currently an Associate Professor Extraordinary and Associate Professor at Stellenbosch University, a position they have held since 2020. G-J is also the Chief Executive Officer of Fanfire.ai, an NFT-backed fan engagement platform for physical and digital sports collectibles, since 2021. G-J was the Executive Chairman of Octoco in 2020 and the Co-Founder and Director of Custos Media Technologies from 2014 to 2019. G-J was a Non Executive Director of VoxCroft in 2019 and an Advisor of The LaunchLab since 2015. Prior to that, they were an Associate Professor (Information and Communications Technology) at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Postgraduate Coordinator at the same department at Stellenbosch University from 2001 to 2008. G-J was also the Director of the MIH Media Lab, a cross-disciplinary, pre-commercial research laboratory, from 2008 to 2015.

G-J van Rooyen attended Stellenbosch University from 1995 to 1998, where they earned a BEng in Electronic Engineering. They then returned to Stellenbosch University from 2001 to 2004 and earned a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Electronic Engineering.
