Steve Henderson has a diverse work experience in the field of data engineering, software development, and data science. Steve most recently worked as the Director of Data Engineering at Cyberspatial, starting in November 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Chief Data Scientist at Digital Lantern & Digital Lantern Federal, LLC from June to December 2021. Steve also held the position of Associate Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point from July 2020 to June 2021, where they led the Systems Design and Analysis Center and conducted research on cyber data science anomaly detection.
Before that, Steve worked as a Cyber Security Data Scientist at Merck from October 2019 to April 2020, where they managed a team of developers and developed algorithms for risk analysis. Steve also held the role of Data Science Technical Director and Lead Data Scientist at Enlighten IT Consulting, where they implemented data mining and analytics systems and utilized machine learning techniques for cyber security and hunting applications.
Steve's earlier experiences include working as a Data Science Systems Engineer at Citi, a Senior Cyber Security Researcher at the Software Engineering Institute | Carnegie Mellon University, and an Associate Professor & Research Scientist at the Army Cyber Institute. Steve also served as the Chief Operations Research Systems Analyst at CJTF Paladin, where they conducted analysis projects and provided technical oversight to a team of analysts.
Throughout their career, Steve has demonstrated expertise in data engineering, software development, data science, and cyber security. Steve has worked on various projects for clients such as the Office of the Secretary of Defense, DARPA, the US Army, and Department of Homeland Security. Steve has a strong background in research, strategy development, and collaboration with academia, private industry, and government agencies.
Steve Henderson received their Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1994. Steve then went on to earn a Master's degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona from 2001 to 2003. In 2006, Steve pursued a PhD in Computer Science from Columbia Engineering, which they completed in 2011. During this time, they also obtained a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Computer Science from Columbia University - Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science from 2006 to 2009. In 2016, Steve furthered their education by earning a Graduate Certificate in Incident Response from the SANS Technology Institute, which they completed in 2018. Additionally, they obtained several certifications in the field, such as GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA), GIAC Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA), and GIAC Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM), all from GIAC Certifications.
