Trevor Butterworth

Trevor Butterworth has had a long and illustrious career in the fields of technology, communications, and journalism. Trevor currently serves as Co-founder and Vice President of Governance at Indicio.tech, an organization that develops decentralized identity blockchain networks and applications. Trevor is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Trinity College Dublin.

Previously, Butterworth was Vice President of Research at CynjaTech, where they promoted data literacy and privacy. Trevor was also the Founding Director of Sense About Science USA, where they created and curated a national conversation about the value of scientific progress and the importance of evidence and transparency. Trevor was also the Editor-at-Large of STATS.org, a collaboration between Sense About Science USA and the American Statistical Association.

In addition, Butterworth held Communications Consultant roles at The Sovrin Foundation and Ceres2030, and was a Visiting Fellow at Cornell University. Trevor has also worked as a freelance journalist since 1998, writing features, profiles, and "Lunch Withs" for the Financial Times, book reviews for the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and BookForum, and a weekly column for Forbes.com and The Daily. Trevor has also appeared on various media outlets as a commentator.

Trevor Butterworth obtained a BA (hons) in Two subject moderatorship, Modern English, and Art History from Trinity College Dublin between 1987 and 1991. Trevor then attended Georgetown University for a Graduate Exchange Scholarship in History of Ideas and Philosophy from 1993 to 1994. Following this, they returned to Trinity College Dublin to receive a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Reformation and Enlightenment Studies from 1991 to 1993. Lastly, they attended Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism, where they earned a Master of Science (MS) in Journalism from 1997 to 1998.
