Jana Shakarian

Jana Shakarian is CTO and Co-Founder of CYR3CON. Jana is a sociologist and anthropologist specializing in the behavior of hacking groups. She has co-authored several books, Elsevier’s Introduction to Cyber-Warfare and Springer’s Computational Analysis of Terrorist Groups: Lashkar-e-Taiba and Cambridge’s Darkweb Cyber Threat Intelligence Mining.

Prior to CYR3CON, she worked as a Research Scientist at Arizona State University where she was Co-PI for major grants from the IARPA (U.S. Intelligence Community) and the U.S. Navy during which she led engineering and analytical teams focused on gathering and understanding malicious hacker communities.

Earlier she worked as a staff social scientist for the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) where she worked on major projects funded by the U.S. Air Force and Lockheed Martin – leading a team focused on data collection. She has also previously worked as a consultant for the West Point Network Science Center and as a researcher for the Kriminalwissenschaftliches Institut des BKA (the German equivalent to the FBI), where she worked on research dealing with human trafficking and right wing extremism.

She holds a M.A. in Sociology and Cultural and Social Anthropology from the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany.
