Matthew Thomas Lacey

Matthew Thomas Lacey has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of soccer. Matthew Thomas started their career in 2010 as the Technical Director and Director of Player Development at Chesterfield United Soccer Club. In 2012, they joined the Virginia Youth Soccer Association as part of the ODP State and District Coaching Staff. From 2013 to 2014, Matthew worked as a Coaching Instructor for the U.S. Soccer Federation, focusing on providing coaching licenses. In 2014, they became the Executive Director/Director of Soccer at the Virginia Soccer Association. In 2015, Matthew took on the role of Technical Director at the Virginia Development Academy, a collaborative partnership between Prince William Soccer (PWSI), Virginia Soccer Association (VSA), and Herndon Youth Soccer (HYS). In 2018, they briefly served as the Head Coach for the ICC Futures. Matthew's most recent roles include being the National Selection Director (BOYS) at The ECNL since 2021 and the U23 Director/Coach at D.C. United starting from 2022.

Matthew Thomas Lacey began their education in 2005 at Lees-McRae College, where they studied Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services until 2007. Matthew Thomas then attended Winthrop University from 2008 to 2010, earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History.

In addition to their academic education, Matthew Thomas Lacey has obtained various certifications. In 2011, they received the National Youth License from the U.S. Soccer Federation. This was followed by an A License in 2014. In 2016, they completed a certification in Football Tactics & Action Analysis from the World Football Academy, and in 2017, they obtained a certification in Football Braining from the same institution.

More recently, Matthew Thomas Lacey obtained the Grassroots Instructor License from the U.S. Soccer Federation in 2019, and the Academy Director License from the same institution in June 2019. In December 2020, they completed the Academy Management - Master Class certification offered by Double Pass.
