Casey Smith

Director of Player Health and Performance at Dallas Mavericks

Casey Smith begins his 17th season with the Mavericks. After spending 15 seasons as head athletic trainer, Smith was promoted to director of player health and performance prior to the 2019-20 campaign. He is responsible for oversight of all areas related to health and physical performance. Smith joined the Mavericks in 2004 from the sports medicine staff of the Phoenix Suns, where he was head strength and conditioning coach and assistant athletic trainer. He is a 1994 graduate of West Virginia University with a master’s of science in athletic training, and he received his bachelor’s of science in exercise science from Arizona State University in 1992. Smith is currently pursuing his doctorate in kinesiology from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Smith is a native of Wellston, Ohio, and resides in Dallas with his wife, Jennifer, and their son, Justin.
