Brett Hurt

CEO & Co-Founder at data.world

Brett Hurt is the CEO and Co-Founder of data.world, a social enterprise that is on a mission to make data more meaningful by bringing the world's data together and making it accessible to everyone.

Prior to data.world, Brett was a Partner at Capital Factory, a mentor at TechStars, and the author of "The Entrepreneur's Essentials." Brett also served on the Board of Directors for the Data Transparency Coalition from October 2016 to December 2019.

Brett's previous company, Shelfbucks, won the DEMO God Award in 2014. Brett served as Chairman of the Board from June 2013 to March 2014 and then transitioned to an Advisory Board member. Shelfbucks went out of business after a long run, due in part to the slow adoption of traditional retail in the Amazon era.

Brett Hurt received their MBA in High-Tech Entrepreneurship from The Wharton School in 1999 and their Management Information Systems degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1994.

Some direct reports include Jon Loyens - CPO & Co-Founder, Matt Laessig - COO & Co-Founder, and Ariane Chan - General Counsel.
