Mark J. Desens

Mark J. Desens has extensive work experience in various roles within the U.S. Marine Corps. From 2001 to 2002, they served as the Commanding Officer of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (REIN) 261, 22 MEU(SOC). Mark J. then worked as the Associate Director of the Manpower and Budget Branch at the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 2004 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, Mark was the Deputy Director of the Operations Division at the Plans, Policies, and Operations Department (HQ U.S. Marine Corps). Mark J. then became the Commanding Officer of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit from 2008 to 2011, where they led over 2,200 Marines and sailors on operational deployments and participated in various missions. In 2012, they served as the Director of the U.S. Marine Corps Command & Staff College, where they led the development and implementation of a ten-month intensive program for mid-grade officers and civilians. From 2014 to 2016, Mark worked as a Senior Principal Operations Research Analyst at ManTech, providing direct support to Marine Corps decision-making. Since 2016, they have been an Instructor at Davis Defense Group, Inc., teaching all aspects of the U.S. Marine Corps Command & Staff College to Blended Seminar and non-resident students.

Mark J. Desens has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Applied Sciences from the U.S. Naval Academy, which they obtained from 1980 to 1984. Mark J. then pursued higher education and completed a Master of Science (MS) degree in National Security Studies at the National War College (National Defense University) from 2003 to 2004. In 1997 to 1998, they attended the Marine Corps Command & Staff College, where they earned a Master of Military Studies (MMS) degree in Military Studies. In 2007, Mark participated in the MIT Seminar XXI, focusing on US/International Strategy & Policy Issues. Lastly, in 2012, they completed the Higher Command & Staff Course in the United Kingdom to enhance their Senior Leader Course skills.
