Job description

Daystar Power Group is a Pan-African provider of solar and hybrid power solutions, offering its systems on a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), fixed monthly fee lease, or buy-out basis. All our solutions are accompanied by comprehensive maintenance services, to ensure the solutions run 365 days a year. We are currently operational in seven countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, and have recently launched in South Africa and Tanzania.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Technician who will ensure the reliability and efficiency of power generation systems throughout their lifecycle.

Key responsibilities:

1. Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support for the planning, installation, and maintenance of power generation systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure technical requirements are met.

2. Installation and Commissioning:

  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of power generation equipment, including solar photovoltaic systems (Rooftop and ground mount), battery energy storage systems, microgrid controllers, meteorological stations, and other relevant systems.
  • Interface with Original Equipment Manufacturers or other specialists where required.
  • Conduct tests to ensure proper functionality and compliance with specifications.

3. Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on power generation equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair technical issues promptly to minimize downtime.

4. Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Collect and analyze data related to power generation systems, including performance metrics and efficiency.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for system improvements based on data analysis

5. Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of equipment specifications, maintenance activities, and repairs.
  • Update project documentation as needed

6. Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to and enforce safety protocols and guidelines during all project activities.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.

7. Quality Control:

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining quality control processes for power generation- and control systems.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards (NRS, SANS)

8. Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of spare parts and equipment.
  • Coordinate with procurement for the timely acquisition of necessary components.

9. Collaboration:

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to achieve project objectives.
  • Communicate effectively and contribute technical expertise to project planning and execution.

10. Training and Knowledge Transfer:

  • Provide training to other team members on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Stay informed about industry developments and share knowledge with the project team.

11. Troubleshooting:

  • Respond to technical issues (AC, DC, and Communications) and troubleshoot problems in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Other tasks as may be assigned by the Project Engineer or Head of Technical.
