Jeffrey Trzeciak

A native Daytonian, Jeffrey first worked for the Dayton Metro Library as a high school student in the 1980s. He was an Automated Systems Librarian (today’s IT Department) from 1986-1990. He earned an undergraduate degree in 1987 from the University of Dayton, and a Masters in Library Science from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1991.

An accomplished administrator, Jeff has more than 30 years’ experience in both public and academic libraries. He worked at Wright State University Library, Wayne State University Library (Detroit), McMaster University (Ontario, CA), and Washington University (St. Louis). He served as Director of the Newark Public Library and Director of the Jersey City Free Library, both in New Jersey, before returning to Dayton in March, 2021.

In a career marked by innovation and collaboration, Jeffrey is a champion of civil rights and social justice, particularly in the African American, Hispanic and LGBTQ communities. He initiated the award-winning Documenting Ferguson project after the shooting of Michael Brown in 2014, and in 2017, he received a City Citation for his commitment to the Newark Puerto Rican community. In 2018, he received the Community Partner Award from Newark Pride for LGBTQ programming, and the 2018 Director's Recognition Award for his demonstrated commitment to staff and staff development.
