James Geyer has a diverse work experience in both academia and the medical field. James started their career in 1998 at Alabama Neurology and Sleep Medicine as the Medical Director of Sleep Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology, and later became the Medical Director of Sleep Medicine and Co-Director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Training Program. In 2006, they joined The University of Alabama as a Professor and Medical Director of the Institute for Rural Health Research, while also serving as an Adjunct Professor and Medical Director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program in the Department of Psychology. James was also the Neurology Program Director at The University of Alabama from 2006 to 2013. James Geyer has also held roles as the President of the Applied Microbiomics Society, Senior Advisor for Medical Affairs at Evimero, Senior Advisor at Scaled Microbiomics, Co-Founder of Vocall, and Chief Development Officer at Magic Medical Solutions. In 2019, they founded Smart Business Great Medicine. From 2015 to 2019, they worked as the Chief Medical Technology Officer at Neurotexion, LLC.

James Geyer received their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Duke University in 1987. James then attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where they obtained their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from 1989 to 1993. James pursued their Neurology Residency Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1993 to 1997. In 1997, they engaged in the study of Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine at the University of Michigan. Additionally, James Geyer holds certifications in Neurology from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., Sleep Medicine from the AMERICAN BOARD OF SLEEP MEDICINE, and Neuroimaging from The American Society of Neuroimaging.
