Sabine Mertens

Sabine Mertens is an accomplished Senior Program and Project Manager with extensive experience across various prestigious organizations in the transportation and engineering sectors. Currently serving at De Lijn since November 2022, Sabine leads major projects and supports continuous improvement initiatives. Previous roles include Senior Consultant and Project Leader at IKOS GROUP, where Sabine worked on interlocking implementation projects for SIEMENS Mobility and conducted significant ETCS implementations with Alstom. Sabine's project management expertise encompasses ERTMS projects for Thalys, maintenance optimization for Lineas, and critical updates to the Belgian railway network during tenure at Infrabel. Sabine has also managed strategic development projects at Brussels Airport and contributed to the NATO AWACS program at Thales Communications. Educational qualifications include a Master of Business Administration from Vlerick Business School and a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Karel de Grote-Hogeschool.
