Shakir Mohamed

Shakir Mohamed is currently working as a Research Director at DeepMind, focusing on AI, Science, and Society. Before this, Shakir was a Co-Founder and Chair at Deep Learning Indaba, aiming to strengthen African AI. Prior to these roles, Shakir was a Senior Researcher in Statistical Machine Learning at DeepMind Technologies. Shakir also has experience as a Junior Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia and as a Business Analyst at Nedbank. Shakir holds a PhD in Statistical Machine Learning from the University of Cambridge and a BSc (Eng) in Electrical and Information Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand.
