Lorenzo Rinaldi

Head Of Translational Science at Delfi Diagnostics

Lorenzo Rinaldi has a diverse work experience in the field of genomics and cancer research. Lorenzo is currently working at DELFI Diagnostics as the Head of Translational Science. Prior to this, they were a Senior Genomics Scientist at the same company from March 2022 to July 2023.

From January 2018 to March 2022, they worked as an EMBO Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). During this time, they focused on developing novel ctDNA biotechnologies to better treat cancer patients, specifically high aggressive forms of Lung and Prostate Cancer. Lorenzo led an ambitious project to utilize ctDNA modifications for therapeutic purposes, using liquid biopsy as a method to detect circulating tumor material in the bloodstream.

Before joining NCI, Lorenzo worked as a Volunteering Assistant Professor of Genetics and Epigenetics at the National University of Lesotho from February 2017 to June 2017.

From September 2012 to February 2017, they pursued their Ph.D. as a PHD Candidate at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and the Institute of Research for Biomedicine (IRB). Lorenzo'sresearch focused on understanding how epigenetic mechanisms regulate the homeostasis of epidermal stem cells and their role in protecting the skin from cancer.

Lorenzo also has experience as an MSc student at Universitat Pompeu Fabra from September 2010 to 2012, a Master's thesis student at CNIO from January 2011 to June 2011, and as a Research Assistant at the Harvard School of Public Health from September 2009 to August 2010. Lorenzo'sresearch at Harvard was focused on Immunology and Infectious diseases, particularly the analysis and study of Plasmodium Knowlesi.

Furthermore, they worked on their Bachelor's thesis at the University of Manchester from March 2008 to July 2008. Lorenzo'sthesis involved studying the role of integrins in regulating breast cancer progression using a panel of Mcf10a cell lines cultured in vitro. This experience allowed him to acquire skills in various laboratory techniques such as Flow Cytometry, FACS, Western Blot, cell culture, confocal microscopy, and immunofluorescence staining.

Lorenzo Rinaldi completed their BSc degree in Life Science from Università degli Studi di Firenze, where they studied from 2005 to 2009. After that, they pursued an MSc degree in Biomedical Research at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, studying from 2010 to 2011.
