Wouter van der Star is a seasoned researcher with extensive experience in environmental biotechnology, particularly in the interaction of microbiology and chemistry with the physics of water and soil. Currently, at Deltares since January 2008, Wouter has focused on quantifying these impacts while also working hands-on in laboratory settings. In addition, Wouter serves as the Program Manager for Carbon Cycling at EcoShape, overseeing the development of tools for assessing greenhouse gas emissions from Building with Nature projects since January 2023. Prior roles include a researcher/advisor at GeoDelft, where Wouter studied microbial processes relevant to geotechnical applications, and a PhD student at Delft University of Technology, where research centered on the anammox process, significantly reducing nitrogen removal costs. Wouter's educational background includes a PhD in Environmental Biotechnology and an MSc in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, both from Delft University of Technology.
