Kelly Ibsen is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in research, program management, and technology transfer. Currently serving as an Adviser (Fellow) in the Office of the Science & Technology Adviser to the Secretary at the U.S. Department of State since September 2024, Kelly has also held the role of AAAS Fellow briefly in the same month. Previously, Kelly was the Vice President of Research and Program Management at i2o Therapeutics, after serving as the Director of Research at the same company. Academic credentials include a PhD in Chemical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Colorado State University. Kelly has served as a Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard University and as a Doctoral Candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Early career experience includes positions as Owner of Lynx Engineering LLC, Director of Tech Transfer at Myriant Corporation, and Biochemical Platform Lead at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
