Virginia Herrmann

Senior Analyst (foreign Affairs Officer), Cultural Heritage Center at U.S. Department of State

Virginia Herrmann is a Senior Analyst in Cultural Property at the U.S. Department of State, a role held since November 2022. Herrmann has extensive experience in archaeology, serving as Co-Director of the Chicago-Tübingen Excavations at Zincirli, Turkey, since 2014, where a multidisciplinary team conducts innovative research and trains students from multiple countries. Previous positions include Visiting Assistant Professor at Bryn Mawr College and Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern archaeology. Herrmann has contributed to museum projects, including as Consulting Curator for the University of Pennsylvania Museum and Exhibition Co-Curator at the Oriental Institute Museum. Educational credentials include a PhD and MA in Near Eastern Archaeology from the University of Chicago and a BA in Classics and Archaeology from Brown University.
