Rafe Colburn

Rafe Colburn has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning various roles in the technology industry. Rafe is currently working at Depop as the Chief Product and Technology Officer, a position they have held since April 2023. Prior to their role at Depop, Rafe served as the Chief Product Officer at the same company from November 2021 to April 2023.

Before joining Depop, Rafe worked at Etsy, where they held multiple positions over a span of nine years. Rafe'sroles at Etsy included VP of Engineering from October 2019 to November 2021, Senior Director Of Engineering from October 2017 to October 2019, Director of Engineering from April 2016 to September 2017, and Engineering Manager, Data Engineering from January 2012 to April 2016. In their role as Engineering Manager, Rafe was responsible for managing the data engineering team and overseeing the development of Etsy's analytics stack, including the website instrumentation, Hadoop infrastructure, data warehousing, and A/B testing platform and tools.

Prior to Etsy, Rafe worked at IDology as a Principal Developer from September 2009 to January 2012 and as a Senior Developer from March 2004 to September 2009. At IDology, they played a crucial role in designing and building the back-end systems for the company's identity verification and knowledge-based authentication service, which scaled from zero to over a million transactions per month.

Before IDology, Rafe served as the Director of Technology at hesketh.com, a web consulting firm, from March 2007 to September 2009. In this role, they managed a team of developers and designers and provided technical leadership for the company.

Earlier in their career, Rafe worked at the National eXtension Initiative as a Senior Software Engineer from September 2005 to March 2007. Rafe led a team of developers working on Ruby on Rails projects and developed custom content management applications for the initiative.

Rafe also gained experience at companies such as Borland, where they worked as a Senior Internet Developer from February 2002 to December 2003, and Alerts, Inc, where they worked as a Developer from January 2000 to January 2002.

Rafe'scareer began at Interpath, where they served as a Senior Internet Technologist from December 1997 to December 1999, working on web projects for clients such as Bank of America, Pfizer, and Nationwide Insurance.

Rafe's first role in the tech industry was as a Technical Writer at InSoft from 1995 to 1996.

Rafe Colburn attended the University of Houston from 1989 to 1996, where they pursued a degree in Management Information Systems. Rafe successfully completed their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a focus in this field of study.
