Stephen Lowe has a diverse work experience in the field of accessibility consulting. Stephen has worked as a Senior Accessibility Consultant at Deque Systems, Inc since 2019, providing end-to-end accessibility consulting to a variety of clients. Prior to that, they worked as a Digital Accessibility Consultant at Wells Fargo from 2018 to 2019, where they provided digital accessibility guidance to teams across the company. Stephen also worked as a Web Accessibility Advisor at Blue Cross NC in 2017, providing web accessibility guidance to teams and ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.0 and Section 508 guidelines. Stephen also worked as an Accessibility Auditor at Criterion 508 Solutions, Inc. from 2017 to 2017, auditing websites for accessibility compliance. Stephen's early career includes a role as a Senior Editor at the National Standards Association, where they managed a team and oversaw the production of publications.
Stephen Lowe attended Duke University from 1981 to 1985, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Economics and History. In addition to their formal education, they have obtained several certifications related to accessibility and web development. These include the "Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)" from the IAAP - International Association of Accessibility Professionals in November 2018, as well as various certifications from LinkedIn in areas such as creating accessible Microsoft Office documents, web forms, web accessibility principles, web semantics, accessibility for WordPress, advanced accessible PDFs, content strategy for websites, foundations of UX accessibility, and improving SEO using accessibility techniques.
