Jeff Caplan has extensive work experience in various industries. Jeff founded and worked as a business attorney at Caplan Law from 2004 to 2014, where they handled projects in financial services, technology, energy, and agriculture. Jeff also founded and served as General Counsel for Claremont Energy, a venture capital and private equity firm focused on utility-scale power generation, from 2003 to 2011. Additionally, they founded and served as General Counsel for Design Real Estate, a company involved in residential development projects, from 2003 to 2010. Jeff worked as a Legal Consultant for Verizon from 1999 to 2001, negotiating contracts in the telecom industry. Jeff also worked as a Foreign Associate for Negri, Teijeiro & Incera in Argentina in 1998, assisting foreign clients with investments. Furthermore, they worked as a Legal Consultant for the Internet Society, a non-profit organization, from 1997 to 1998, where they collaborated with internet pioneers and researched digital currencies. Jeff started their career as a Paralegal at the U.S. Department of Justice in 1991, assisting in tax collection efforts. Since 2015, they have been serving as the COO and General Counsel for Derivee Capital Group, a proprietary investor and incubator focusing on technology related to financial services, energy, and agriculture.
Jeff Caplan attended Vanderbilt University Law School from 1992 to 1995, where they obtained a JD degree with a focus on Corporate and Securities Law. Prior to that, they studied at Pomona College from 1987 to 1991, earning a BA degree in Government. In 1990, Jeff also participated in a study abroad program at the University of Lund in Sweden. Additionally, they completed a Spanish language certificate program at the South American Language Center in Ecuador in 1998. Apart from their education, Jeff has obtained certifications as an attorney from the DC Bar, California State Bar, and the New York State Unified Court System.
