Katie Cheung has over 10 years of work experience. Katie began their career as a Research Assistant at the Center for Emerging Infectious Disease, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2005. Katie then moved on to become an M.S. Student Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong in 2001. In 2004, they became a Teaching Associate at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. Katie continued their studies in 2006, becoming a Ph.D. Student Researcher at the Department of Anatomy, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. In 2010, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope National Medical Center. In 2012, they became a Research Scientist and Cell Production Manager at ScienCell Research Laboratories. In 2014, they moved to Cell Applications, Inc. as a Staff Scientist and Senior Staff Scientist. In 2018, they became a Senior Scientist at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and, most recently, in 2021, they became a Principal Scientist at Design Therapeutics.
Katie Cheung obtained their Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Animal and Plant Biotechnology from The University of Hong Kong between 1998 and 2001. Katie then went on to complete their Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Cancer Biology at The University of Hong Kong between 2001 and 2004. Finally, they received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neuroscience from The University of Hong Kong in 2010.
