Omari Sankofa II

Omari Sankofa II is an accomplished sports journalist with extensive experience in basketball reporting. Currently serving as the Pistons beat writer for the Detroit Free Press since April 2020, Omari previously covered the Grizzlies for The Athletic and focused on Robert Morris basketball as well as district colleges and general assignment sports for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Additional roles include contributions to MSU football and freelance sports reporting for the Lansing State Journal, alongside editorial responsibilities for Sports Illustrated's Campus Rush. Earlier internships at MLive Media Group and SI.com provided a foundation in producing diverse sports content, while leadership as Editor in Chief at The State News showcased management skills. Omari holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Michigan State University.
