Jennette Smith Kotila is currently a Trustee at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and was previously Vice President, Director of Marketing and Communications at CORE Partners from February 2017 to February 2018. Kotila has also held the positions of Editor at Crain's Detroit Business from September 2015 to December 2016, Managing Editor at Crain Communications from January 2012 to September 2015, and Deputy Managing Editor at Crain Communications from September 1998 to December 2011. Kotila began their career as a Business Reporter at The Macomb Daily from December 1997 to September 1998.

Jennette Smith Kotila graduated from Michigan State University College of Communication Arts and Sciences with a degree in advertising. Jennette then attended the Poynter Institute for a brief time before transferring to Northwood University to study advertising. Kotila eventually earned their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Journalism from Michigan State University with a specialty in business. Jennette has also attended the The Wharton School Seminar for Business Journalists.
