Valerie Flanagan

Valerie Flanagan is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in economic development, strategic planning, and entrepreneurship support across various organizations. Currently serving as an enterPRIZE Challenge Advisor at the International Labour Organization (ILO) South Africa, Valerie has played a pivotal role in securing R85 million for the expansion of the ILO's SME Development Initiative. As the Owner/Director of Development Alternatives, Valerie focuses on economic development research and strategic consulting. Previous roles include Jobs Fund Advisor at Microsoft South Africa, where significant funding was raised for initiatives promoting technology and entrepreneurship among youth, and Head of Partnerships at Enablis, supporting entrepreneurship development in Africa. Valerie's early career includes research and leadership positions in agricultural marketing and trade unions, complemented by a robust educational background, including an MBA from the University of Cape Town and degrees in International Relations from Mills College.
