Katherine Smart

Katherine Smart is a prominent figure in the brewing and distilling industry, currently serving as the Global Technical Director and Chief Scientist at Diageo since January 2019. With a robust background that includes roles such as Chief Brewer at Anheuser-Busch InBev and Global Chief Brewer at SABMiller, Katherine has extensive experience in brewing science and technology. Katherine holds several important positions including Master and Member of Court in the Worshipful Company of Brewers, President Elect of the American Society of Brewing Chemists, and Honorary Professor in Brewing Science at the University of Nottingham. In addition to contributions to academia, Katherine co-founded The Surrey Copper Distillery Limited and has received various accolades, including multiple fellowships and honorary doctorates for contributions to brewing science. Katherine has also pursued further education in diverse fields such as sustainability, creative writing, and archaeology at esteemed institutions including the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford.
