Alexandra Merritt Johnson is an Inclusive Innovation researcher at Digital Promise. Her research focuses on creating classroom conditions for learning that incorporate and build upon the cultural capital of Black and Brown students. In her current work, she engages in community-based research in which she collaborates with district-community teams to investigate equity issues embedded in their schools and communities. In addition, she also examines various topics related to equitable community-based R&D work such as centering racial equity in R&D processes. Alexandra earned a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University and an M.S. in Psychology from University of California, Santa Cruz. She is also a proud graduate of a Historically Black University, Virginia State University. The culturally responsive educational experiences she had at Virginia State ignited Alexandra’s passion for equity in education.
