Rebecca Herbig

Rebecca S. Herbig, J.D., MSW, is a seasoned legal and social work professional with extensive experience in disability rights advocacy and litigation. Currently serving as the Legal Director at the disAbility Law Center of Virginia since January 2017, Rebecca has held multiple roles, including Director of Litigation and Institutional Rights Unit Manager, focusing on protecting the rights of individuals in facilities and assisting with community discharge processes. Additionally, Rebecca is a Field Liaison and Faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University, involved in training social work students and enhancing educational programs for professionals working with individuals with disabilities. Past experiences include internships and policy roles with various organizations, as well as positions in law firms, showcasing a strong commitment to advocacy, policy development, and interdisciplinary practice. Rebecca holds a J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law, a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Certificate in Disability Leadership.

The disAbility Law Center of Virginia (dLCV) is the designated Protection and Advocacy organization of Virginia. Using funding received from federal grants, we help clients with disability-related problems like abuse, neglect, and discrimination. Our mission is to advance independence, choice and self-determination; protect legal, human and civil rights; and eliminate abuse, neglect and discrimination of people with disabilities through zealous and uncompromising legal advocacy and representation.
