Joel Maxey has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Joel started their career in 1989 as a Store Manager at George's Music, where they worked until 1991. In 1992, they joined DIY Media Group as the VP of Operations.

Joel then moved to AVL Digital Group dba Disc Makers / CD Baby / Book Baby / Host baby in 2002, where they held various management positions in Production and Inventory until 2001. Joel then served as Director of Hardware and Consumable Operations from 2002 to 2009, and as Director of Procurement, Planning, and HC Operations from 2010 to 2011. From 2011 to 2012, Joel was the Senior Director of Operations, and from 2013 onwards, they became the Vice President of Operations at AVL.
