Paul Birkmeyer

CTO & Co-Founder at Dishcraft

Paul Birkmeyer is the CTO and co-founder of Dishcraft Robotics. Paul has also worked on the Yamaha Motobot project, the SRI's high-efficiency humanoid robot, and the DARPA Warrior Web wearable robotics platform. In addition, they have led and contributed to several internal R&D efforts to build SRI's internal IP portfolio and technical capabilities.

Birkmeyer received their electrical engineering degree from Oregon State University. Paul has worked on various robotics projects, including the DARPA Robotics Challenge efficient humanoid, where they were the lead controls engineer on the SRI team. In this role, they managed and worked with teams of professors and graduate students at Oregon State University and Texas A&M to create an efficient dynamic walking gait for our humanoid robot. Paul also helped design and debug mechanical systems, embedded hardware, and software.

Birkmeyer's work on the Yamaha Motobot project earned him a spot in the Guinness World Records as the first person to ride a motorcycle at over 300 miles per hour while being controlled by a robot. The Motobot is a robot that can ride a motorcycle at human speeds.

Birkmeyer is also the sole electrical engineer and controls engineer working on the Superflex project, which is a wearable robotics platform that is designed to lower the metabolic cost of walking with a load for soldiers. Paul has developed walking detection algorithms, studied human biomechanics, and implemented torque controllers to augment human walking to effectively

Dr. Paul Birkmeyer received their PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Paul also holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Ohio State University.

Paul Birkmeyer reports to Linda Pouliot, CEO & Co-Founder. Some of their coworkers include Lauren Schechtman - VP, Business Development & Sales.
