Job description

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Privacy Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the organization's adherence to privacy laws and best practices, safeguarding sensitive information, and promoting a culture of privacy and data protection.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and update the organization's privacy policies and procedures to align with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure policies are effectively communicated and understood by all members.
  • Monitor and assess the organization's data processing activities to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.
  • Provide guidance on data protection impact assessments and ensure their completion when necessary.
  • Develop and conduct privacy training programs for volunteers, staff, and members to increase awareness of privacy issues and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of privacy by promoting responsible data handling and security practices.
  • Establish and maintain an incident response plan for privacy-related incidents.
  • Coordinate and lead the response to privacy incidents, ensuring prompt reporting and resolution.
  • Evaluate and monitor privacy practices of third-party vendors and partners.
  • Ensure that contracts and agreements with vendors include appropriate privacy and data protection clauses.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments for new projects, programs, or initiatives to identify and mitigate potential privacy risks.
  • Manage and respond to data subject access requests in accordance with privacy laws.
  • Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of data subject rights.

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., law, information security, privacy).
  • Previous experience in privacy compliance, data protection, or related roles.
  • Knowledge of relevant privacy laws and regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, etc.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPT) would be a plus.
