Brett A. Mansfield

Deputy Inspector General for Audit at Department of Defense Office of Inspector General

Mr. Brett A. Mansfield was selected as the Deputy Inspector General for Audit on October 10, 2021. Prior to his selection to Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Mansfield served as the Senior Advisor to the Inspector General. As Senior Advisor, he provided advice and counsel to the Inspector General, Principal Deputy Inspector General, and the Chief of Staff concerning a variety of sensitive issues, including specific matters affecting the mission and operations of the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General.

Mr. Mansfield joined the DoD OIG in January 1999 as an Auditor. Since then, he has served in several roles, including Deputy Chief of Staff from March 2010 to June 2015 and Special Assistant to the Inspector General from June 2015 through October 2017. Mr. Mansfield also served as the Acting Assistant Inspector General for Communications and Congressional Liaison from January 2013 through September 2013. In this role, he ensured open and meaningful lines of communication with Congress, the public, and the media regarding the oversight efforts of the Office of Inspector General and managed oversight of the DoD Hotline operations.

Mr. Mansfield earned a B.A. in Accounting from Robert Morris University and an M.A. in Policy Management from Georgetown University. Mr. Mansfield is the recipient of the DoD Inspector General Medals for Distinguished and Superior Civilian Service and two Awards for Excellence from the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency.
