Josef Wagner is a highly experienced Senior Staff Scientist and bioinformatician at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, focusing on nasal virome and microbiome analysis since April 2023. Previously, as a Senior Medical Scientist at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, key achievements included the introduction of bioinformatics programs that enhanced data quality and efficiency in genome sequence analysis. While serving as a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Josef published a paper in Nature and developed a PacBio pipeline for bacterial sequencing. Furthermore, during a ten-year tenure at Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Josef led significant projects related to Crohn’s Disease and completed a PhD centered on mouse embryonic stem cells at the University of Melbourne. Educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Medical Biotechnology from Abertay University and a PhD in Embryonic Stem Cells from the University of Melbourne.
